NEW: 168 Festival "Open" Category
Since 2003, the 168 Film Festival is the crown jewel of our production competition, the 168 Film Project. For the first time ever, we are opening the festival to short films produced outside of the 168 competition up to 35 minutes in length. Award trophies will be given for the Best Short Film and Runner-up in the 168 Open Class. There is no cash prize. The winner is not eligible for any other 168 or 8168 prizes.
The 168 Film Festival is August 26-27, 2017 at the Regal Cinemas & Premiere House at LA Live, Downtown Los Angeles. It's a glitzy, two-day red carpet affair featuring artists from around the world. Saturday features the Kids Program, a fantastic lineup of short film premieres, and a surprise event in the evening. Sunday's highlights include more screenings from outstanding artists and the annual Red Carpet Walk. The gala awards ceremony caps the event, followed by the legendary 168 After Party.
Rules & Terms
The 168 Open is an extension of the 168 Film Festival, which is based on the “168 Film Project” speed film competition. The 168 Open category is for short films up to 35 minutes in length. These films will not compete with the films of the 168 Film Project. Learn more at 168Film.com. Entry and screener upload is managed through FilmFreeway.com. Official selection status is not guaranteed and the entry fee is nonrefundable.
Except for VR entries, Official Selection producers will provide a Digital Cinema Initiative Compliant HD, 2K or 4K DCP file, as a flat or scope package. Filmmakers are responsible to perform Quality Control (Q/A-Q/C) checks on their submissions. Filmmakers may elect to use 168 preferred DCP provider, Roush Media, at a cost of $4/minute for conversion of online quality files. No hard drive purchase is necessary.
Content: The telling of a rough journey is ok, but we ask that you don’t “rub our nose in it” by showing graphic details. Blasphemous films and gratuitous elements are unacceptable. No swearing, gratuitous sex, violence, language or drug use.
